A couple of weeks ago we dug up lots of strawberry plants to make way for the new garlic bed as it is a perfect position. its amazing how strawberries spread over time, and after sorting through the muddy roots and discarding the older plants which aren't as productive anymore, we wound up with 16 plants. We soaked the roots in a tub of water outside for 24 hours before planting and they are now comfortable in pots and a hanging basket. I am thrilled to say they have ALL taken and are doing well, this perfect spring weather has helped of course. Another bonus to having them in containers instead of in the ground is that hopefully we can protect them from the slugs (such a problem here!) and have more fruit for us when the time comes.
